Lesson Plans - 4th Quarter, Week 1

Math Skills Inventory Test on Fractions

Students will work on vocabulary, using sentence problems, writing fractions.

Math Vocabulary - numerator = parts you have

denominator = parts of the whole

Students will demonstrate knowledge of the following concepts:

A penny is a fraction of a dollar, 1/100 or one of one hundred equal parts. An inch is a fraction of a foot, 1/12 of a foot. Five days are a fraction of a week, 5/7 of a week. One foot is 1/3 of a yard; 2 feet make up 2/3 of a yard.

Geometry: Review angles

Students will demonstrate knowledge of acute, right, obtuse, and straight angles. Students will draw an angle: Acute = less than 90 degrees; right = equal to 90 degrees; obtuse = between 90 degrees and 180 degrees; Straight =180 degrees.

Students will learn the algebraic symbol for infinity.

Math Project

Students will make a budget sheet and create a circle graph showing how they spent $30.00.

Algebra - Natural numbers

Students will select the natural numbers from a set: -7, 0, 28, 6.3, 3/4.

Students will work in individual workbooks according to skill level.

Writing Assignment

Figurative Language

Students will use similies and metaphors in sentences.

Students will define Similie and Metaphor. Read the poem, "Willow and Ginkgo." Do worksheets 1 and 2.

Reading Comprehension

Students will read "Rosalino's Dog" and answer questions about the story to show understanding. Students who are on lower reading level will listen and follow along online, then answer questions to show understanding.

Students will write a story about a pet.

Students will create illustrations for both stories.

Class will continue reading "Hoops."

Art Project: Follow instructions and design a chair.

Students will discuss issues related to our United States Constitution.

Spelling: Add 12 new words to our spelling list.

Science: We will continue studying the skeletal system.
